Environmental Science Program - Biology Coordinator and Advisor

My research has focused on the ecological and evolutionary adaptations of aquatic organisms to their environment. I have been particularly interested in using an integrative approach to study the conservation of cave organisms- examining alterations in morphology, physiology, life history, genetics, and ecology in response to the cave environment. Many of my studies have involved organisms that are considered threatened or endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service or of special concern within a state/federal agency. Data collected have helped further conservation directions and provide management plans for the agencies involved. Students in my laboratory will acquire a diversity of field and laboratory research techniques. I am open to a variety of questions and am willing to help students develop projects to best fit their needs and interests.
