Department of BiologyFacultyBarbara Clancy, Ph. D. Assistant Professor of Biology Although it is well-known that brain functions are based on the organization of connections between different neural areas, there remain patterns of connectivity that we don't know very much about -- yet. In my current neuroanatomical research, I focus on some of these little-studied connections, including a subset implicated in disorders associated with perinatal injury and dementias. I also investigate the possibility that dissimilar areas of developing brains may follow common connectivity 'rules'. In addition, utilizing a somewhat different approach to neural research, I use statistics to 'translate' neural developmental time across different species. This type of evolutionary-based modeling allows us to better relate research done in laboratory animals to the study of the developing human brain.
