Policies
Students auditioning for membership in the Central Arkansas Youth Choir will be assigned to one of two choirs. The Choristers Choir is open to students in grades 3-high school and will have a less demanding performance schedule and less stringent rehearsals. The Concert Choir is open to students in grades 5-high school and will have several performances throughout the year. Rehearsals will be fast-paced, and music that is more difficult will be studied.
Conduct
CAYC members are expected to behave in a manner befitting students who belong to a select organization. Should a discipline problem arise, the Directors will first talk with the singer. If the problem continues, the Directors will call the parents to alert them of the infraction. If the problem is not corrected at this point, dismissal from the choir will be at the Directors’ discretion.
Attendance
Members of the Central Arkansas Youth Choir must demonstrate a sense of commitment to the Choir by faithful and punctual attendance for the entire length of all scheduled rehearsals and performances. Attendance and punctuality that do not demonstrate commitment to the Choir will result in possible dismissal from the program.
Performances provide the singers with the opportunity to demonstrate their musical growth. Rehearsals immediately preceding concerts and performances are mandatory, as is attendance at all CAYC concerts and performances. If a singer is unable to attend a rehearsal or concert because of illness or family emergency, a parent must call one of the directors or the Community School of Music office stating the reason for the absence prior to the start of the rehearsal or concert. If a parent knows in advance of a school or family conflict, the Directors should be notified in writing prior to the rehearsal or concert in question.
Absence from a mandatory rehearsal, performance, or concert without notice is grounds for dismissal from the choir.
Schedule
The choir will follow the UCA calendar. Rehearsals will be held on Mondays from 4:30 to 6:00 in rooms 125 and 316 of the Snow Fine Arts Center on the UCA campus. There will be no rehearsals on September 1 (Labor Day), January 19 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday), February 16 (Presidents Day Holiday) and March 23 (Spring Break).
Weekly Rehearsals
The CAYC will meet on Monday afternoons from 4:30pm to 6:00pm in the Snow Fine Arts Center at UCA, Room 125 (Choir Room) and Room 316. The first regularly scheduled rehearsal will be Monday, August 18.
Tuition
Although affiliated with the UCA Community School of Music, the CAYC is a self-supporting organization whose primary means of financial support is raised through tuition of $195 per student for the school year. Tuition is refundable only to those who transfer out of the central Arkansas area or for documented medical reasons. A $25 processing fee will be retained from any monies refunded.
If sufficient funds are available, limited scholarships and family discounts may be given. For information about scholarships, please contact Jann Bryant in the Community School of Music office.
