Fall 2008  Program

Lessons for Children, Teens, and Adults: Music lessons help children build confidence and communication skills, develop focused listening skills and foster creativity.  For adults, it’s fun, it brings back skills we’d forgotten or never gotten to develop, and it helps keep our brains in good working order.  Research also seems to indicate that when the elderly take music lessons, anxiety and depression are reduced. Music is good for every age!

Private instruction
is available for students of all ages and ability levels.  Lessons are generally taught on a semester basis, 13 weeks for fall and spring, 5-10 weeks in the summer.  New students may begin at any time during the semester if an available is opening.

Private Lessons
are offered in piano, voice, mandolin, fiddle, guitar, and most band and orchestral instruments.  You may choose an undergraduate, graduate, or faculty-level instructor, depending upon the level or type of instruction you or your family member requires.  Students may study one-on-one with an instructor for a weekly 30-, 45-, or 1-hr. lesson.  Our instructors are professionally trained in the technique and repertoire of their instrument.  Recital performance is available at the end of each semester with the approval of the instructor.  Tuition costs are listed below by level of instructor.

Little Mozart Pre-Piano Class
:  This 6-week class is for children, approximately ages 5-6 and going into Kindergarten or 1st grade in the fall.  Fun introduction to the keyboard and an excellent program to determine readiness for piano lessons.  30 min. class weekly: Tuesday, 4:30pm.  Maximum enrollment: 6.  Minimum enrollment for class to make:  4.  Tuition:  $85.  Materials fee of $15 payable to teacher at first class.  T. Shires, SFA 134A

Class Guitar
for beginners, ages 10 and up, is scheduled for Saturday, 10-11am. Materials Fee: $6, payable at 1st class.  An acoustic guitar is recommended for this economical and fun way to learn to play the guitar.  Max. class size: 10.  Tuition:  $145.  Emerson, SFA 125

Central Arkansas Youth Choir
is made up of Choristers, a training choir for 3rd and 4th graders, and Concert Choir for 5th -  8th grade boys and 5th - 12th grade girls.  The intent of the choir is to promote musical literacy and performance by providing a challenging, high quality, choral experience for its members. This award-winning choir will be singing with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra again this fall. They have performed for Heifer International, United Way, Toad Suck Daze and other state and local civic groups.  Rehearsals begin Mon., Aug. 18.  Call 450-5755 or 450-3672 for information or to schedule audition 8/18 or 8/25.  Annual Tuition:  $195.  SFA 125 and 316
