Nuclear Whales Saxophone Orchestra

The NUCLEAR WHALES SAXOPHONE ORCHESTRA
has a repertoire which includes classical, jazz, and swing and features the entire family of saxophones from the tiny sopranino to the monstrous 6'8" contrabass. This group blends sophisticated musicianship with footloose choreography, ingenious special effects, and madcap comedy.

The Center City Brass Quintet

March 31 - April 2
One of the premiere brass ensembles in America, enter City is known for its high energy and finely polished style. The three-day residency includes master classes, open rehearsals, chamber music coaching, large ensemble rehearsals, private instruction, and a full-length public performance (Friday, April 2, 7:30 p.m., Center Stage in Snow Fine Arts). Joan Schirle

April 12-13
Written and performed by Joan Schirle, "Second Skin: Stories of the Mask" was directed and by Dell'Arte Associate Artist Giulio Cesare Perrone, with
sound design by Tim Gray and lights by Michael Foster. It was premiered at the University of Arkansas, received its west coast premiere at Dell'Arte's Mad River Festival, and was a featured performance in the 2001 Mask Conference at
the University of Iowa.

Terence Blanchard

April 22-23
Down Beat's jazz artist of the year in 2001 and
nominated each of the last four years for a Grammy,
Terence is a trumpeter, bandleader, composer and
film music buff. He is best know for composing
scores for Spike Lee films. His two-day residency
includes a master class, a session on film omposing, a rehearsal with the UCA jazz band and a performance with his group.

Judith Viorst

Judith Viorst is the author of seven collections of poems, including: "The Village Square," "It's Hard to be Hip Over Thirty and Other Tragedies of Married Life," and "How Did I Get to be 40... and Other Atrocities." She has also written three books of prose: "Yes, Married;" "Love and Guilt and the Meaning of Life, Etc.;" and "Necessary Losses," which was on the New York Times Best-seller
list for over a year. She is also the author of nine books for children, including: "Sunday Morning;" "Try it Again, Sam;" and "The Alphabet from Z to A." She was a contributing editor to "Redbook," where her column appeared for more than twenty years.

Reading - 7:30 p.m., September 30th, in Stanley Russ Hall 103. Admission is free. During her visit to campus, Ms. Viorst will also meet with creative writing students.
