Morton Brown, public artist and UCA alumnus (class of ’96), will lead art students in painting a community mural in Conway August 14 - Oct. 6. Brown will also present two illustrated lectures about the mural process, August 30 at 7:00 p.m. and October 18 at 1:30 p.m. in McCastlain Hall 143. Check the mural website. |
Robert and Shana ParkeHarrison: The Architect’s Brother. An Art exhibition featuring narrative images surrounding an “Everyman” character who works to save or restore a spent physical world. Katie Lansdale is an assistant professor of violin at the University of Hartford. She has appeared at international festivals in Finland, Germany, and France, appeared at the White House during her childhood, and later with Yo Yo Ma. She will perform at UCA in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall on September 5 & 6 at 7:30 p.m., October 29 at 7:30 p.m., and November 1 at 1:30 p.m.

Michael Cunningham is the Pulitzer-prize winning author of The Hours (recently adapted to a major motion picture starring Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman) . He will read from his works and take questions on October 16th at 7:30 PM in Stanley Russ Hall Room 103.

The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, one of the oldest and largest professional non-profit theatres in the U.S. (founded 1935), will be featured in the Snow Fine Arts Center Bridges-Larson Theatre. Two OSF actors will perform on November 16 at 7:00 p.m.

John Manasse is a clarinetist who is among the most distinguished classical artists of his generation. He is internationally recognized for his inspiring artistry, uniquely glorious sound and charismatic performing style. He will perform for UCA students on January 31 at 1:40 p.m. in Reynolds Performance Hall.

Jason Bube is a 3D Animator at the NBC Artworks graphics department in New York City. He is a part of the team that designs and implements the look and feel of the MSNBC cable news channel as well as creating some work for NBC News including pieces for the Today Show and Nightly News. Mr. Bube will give a presentation on his profession February 26, 2008 in Stanley Russ Hall Room 103 at 7:30 p.m. |

Roger Shimomura's paintings, prints and theatre pieces address socio-political issues of Asian America and have often been inspired by 56 years of diaries kept by his late immigrant grandmother. The show Return of the Yellow Peril: A Survey of the Work of Roger Shimomura will be on display in the Baum Gallery January 17, 2008 to February 21, 2008. Mr. Shimomura will give opening remarks on January 17th in McCastlain 143 at 5:00 p.m. |
Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, an 18-piece jazz ensemble, celebrates and personifies the best of the big band tradition with a very contemporary and original sound. Michael Daugherty is a professor of music composition at the University of Michigan and is one of the most performed and commissioned American composers of his generation. His compositions include Metropolis Symphony, Motor City Triptych, and Philadelphia Stories. His chamber music will be performed by the UCA Band, Brass Band, and percussion students on March 17, 2008 in the Ida Waldran Auditorium and by UCA Faculty on March 19, 2008 in the Snow Fine Arts Center Recital Hall. Both shows are at 7:30 p.m. |
George Singleton is a member of the South Carolina Governor's School faculty and is the author of four collections of shorts stories: These People Are Us (2001), The Half-Mammals of Dixie (2002), Why Dogs Chase Cars (2004), and Drowning in Gruel (2006). His novel, Novel, was published in 2005. He will read from his works and take questions on April 15, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in Stanley Russ Hall Room 103. |
