Alpha Psi Omega
Zeta Delta Cast

What is Alpha Psi Omega?

Alpha Psi Omega is the national honorary theatre fraterinty for 4 year colleges and universities. The purposes and duties of the organization are to honor those who have contributed to the University of Central Arkansas Theatre program, and

  • to provide a continuous working body for the theatre,
  • to provide leadership for others interested in and working in theatre,
  • to provide a dramatic association organized on the most democratic basis where every member of a student body may have equal opportunity for expression,
  • to provide a fraternity whose motto is fellowship and service, and
  • to stimulate interest in the university theatre program.

Prospective members are nominated by current members and advisors based upon the student's active participation at UCA Theatre. Prospective members must have participated in UCA Theatre activities two semesters prior to being considered for membership and must be actively participating during the semester they are to be considered for membership. This nomination will be based upon an assigned point system as established by the Zeta Delta Cast. Prospective members must have an overall GPA of 2.5 or better. The current membership will nominate a pledge class at least once a year. Alpha Psi Omega believes that theatre students should be well-rounded in all areas of theatre production and performance. Therefore, the point system is divided into three categories:

  • Performance - 40 points must be earned in this category.
  • Production - 40 points must be earned in this category.
  • Business - 20 points must be earned in this category.

Alpha Psi Omega provides a leadership role for all UCA Theatre productions. Members of Alpha Psi Omega have proven themselves to be true theatre artists. They understand that directors, designers, actors and technicians must all work together toward the common goal of seeing a play produced for an audience. Working under this assumption, members of Alpha Psi Omega make themselves available for whatever task needs to be completed, including

  • prop-making
  • scenery painting
  • lighting and sound design
  • costume construction
  • stage managing
  • running crews
  • board operators
  • backstage crews
  • house managing, and
  • ushering.

Alpha Psi Omega sponsors an annual get-together where freshmen theatre students are introduced to their classmates and faculty. Alpha Psi Omega members are called upon to be ambassadors of UCA Theatre as prospective students visit our campus throughout the year. Alpha Psi Omega also sponsors the Curtain Call Ball, including coordinating the event and providing food and entertainment.
