Wind Ensemble
The University of Central Arkansas Wind Ensemble offers
the participating student the highest quality wind literature
and performance experience. The Wind Ensemble has performed
at Carnegie Hall, New York City, and at the Capitol in Washington
D.C. Other notable performances have been for the Arkansas
Music Educators Association, American School Band Directors
Association, and on several occasions for the Arkansas School
Band and Orchestra Association annual All-State Clinic.
The Wind Ensemble presents a Campus Concert Series during
the spring semester in the state-of-the-art Reynolds Performance
Hall. In addition to the campus concerts, the Wind Ensemble
tours regularly and performs at selected high schools throughout
Arkansas and surrounding states.
Symphonic and Concert Bands
The two Fall Symphonic Bands, the Purple and the Gray,
are open to members of the marching band. The bands rehearse
on Tuesday afternoons and perform a campus holiday concert
in December. The Spring Symphonic Band and Concert Band
are open to UCA students of all majors with high school
band experience. The two bands present concerts featuring
a varied repertoire of the finest wind band compositions.
Marching Band
The “Sound of Central Arkansas” marching band,
comprised of students from almost every academic area across
campus, provides a positive social and learning experience.
A mixture of fun and work blend together to produce exciting
performances at all home and selected away football games.
The band usually takes an overnight trip to an out-of-state
football game each year. The marching style is one of outstanding
contemporary music and corps-influenced drill. The band’s
pre-game performance has become a tradition at UCA football
games.
The marching band regularly performs exhibition shows at
invitational and region marching contests and appears at
campus-wide events during football season. The marching
band records and distributes a CD of the current year’s
show music and school songs. The marching band achieved
national recognition by recording promotional compact discs
for the JALEN Music Publishing Company. JALEN markets a
promotional CD of new band music nationwide to college,
high school, and junior high school bands.
