Summer 2008 Program
Lessons for Children, Teens, and Adults: Music lessons help children build confidence and communication skills, develop focused listening skills and foster creativity. For adults, it’s fun, it brings back skills we’d forgotten or never gotten to develop, and it helps keep our brains in good working order. Research also seems to indicate that when the elderly take music lessons, anxiety and depression are reduced. Music is good for every age!
Private Lessons will be offered in piano, voice, guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and many band and orchestral instruments on a 5-10 week basis. Some teachers will teach a schedule different from the regular Summer I and II dates listed below, but most will teach on the regular schedule. Teachers whose schedules vary from the regular schedule are listed below.
Little Mozart Pre-Piano Class: This 5-week class is for children, approximately ages 5-6 and going into Kindergarten or 1st grade in the fall. Fun introduction to the keyboard and an excellent program to determine readiness for piano lessons. 30 min. class weekly: Tuesday, 4:30pm. (4:30 Class full! Now registering students for 5:15pm class.) Maximum enrollment: 6. Minimum enrollment for class to make: 4. Materials fee of $10 - $12 payable to teacher at first class.
Class Piano for Beginners: Grades 2-4: This 5-week class is for children, approximately ages 7-9 and going into 2nd or 4th grade in the fall. The group method is an excellent start for children, encouraging practice and providing performance experience. Thursday, 4:30-5:15pm. Maximum enrollment: 6. Minimum enrollment for class to make: 4. Materials fee of $10 - $12 payable to teacher at first class.
Class Guitar I (summer I) for beginners, ages 10 and up, will begin Saturday, June 7, 10-11am, thru July 5. Guitar Class II starts July 12. Materials Fee: $6, payable at 1st class. Minimum of six students required. Maximum enrolllment: 10.
Rock Star Camp - learn the tunes on “Guitar Hero” and other games on your own real electric guitar! Six 2-hr. classes with Smokey Emerson over a 2-week period, May 19-30, and a rockin’ guitar show at the end to display your skills. Ages 12 and up. Tuition $145
Central Arkansas Youth Choir (formerly Central Arkansas Children’s Choir) auditions for the Fall 2008 semester will be held in June, July, and August. Join our award winning youth choir: Choristers, directed by Rachel Pinto, for grades 3-4 primarily but also for older students, and Concert Choir, directed by Sam Huskey, for Grades 5 thru 12. The faculty of the UCA Community School of Music is made up of current members of the faculty of the UCA Department of Music, visiting instructors, and selected graduate and undergraduate music students under the supervision of a faculty member.

May 6: For lessons and classes beginning mid-May. You may register by mail or email between May 1 and May 7. This includes Will and Jo Preece, and Smokey Emerson’s “Rock Star Camp.”
May 14-15: For Little Mozart, Piano Classes and private lessons with Ms. Shires & “Rock Star Camp”
May 21-22: For Summer I (lessons beginning in June). Mail or email registration dates: May 5-23.
July 1-2: For Summer II (lessons beginning in July): Mail or email registration: June 25-July 1.
