Israel Getzov is in his second season as Director of Orchestras at UCA as well as Music Director/Conductor of the Conway Symphony Orchestra. He also serves as Associate Conductor of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and Principal Guest Conductor of the Fujian Symphony Orchestra in Fuzhou, China.
Around the nation, Mr. Getzov’s appearances include concerts with the Asheville (NC) Symphony, the Monroe (LA) Symphony, Abilene (TX) Philharmonic, Skokie Valley (IL) Symphony, Symphony of the Mountains (TN), Chicago Musical College Orchestra, and Cleveland Institute of Music Opera. In Arkansas, Mr. Getzov has conducted concerts in Russellville, Batesville, Hot Springs, Monticello, Harrison, Jonesboro, North Little Rock, Conway and Little Rock. In July 2006, Mr. Getzov led a group of young Arkansas musicians to China as part of the International Fuzhou Music Camp.
Off the podium, Mr. Getzov has performed as violin soloist with the Arkansas Symphony, and recently completed a 4-year tenure as violinist with the Rockefeller String Quartet. He is a founding member of the Arts Partners, a group of musicians that travels Arkansas bringing classical music to rural schools. His advocacy for youth arts education also extends to his work as guest conductor and coach for the Arkansas Youth Orchestras. He is co-curator of “Sym-fun Science”, an exhibit for the Arkansas Museum of Discovery that teaches the physics of sound using Stravinsky’s L’histoire du Soldat.
Raised in Chicago, Mr. Getzov’s musical studies began with the violin at age 4, and later included viola, piano and percussion. At 16 he earned a position in the violin section of the prestigious Civic Orchestra of Chicago, training orchestra of the Chicago Symphony. He holds an advanced degree in conducting from the Cleveland Institute of Music, and received additional training at the American Academy of Conducting at Aspen and the National Conducting Institute.
