Alice Adams received her B.F.A. from Columbia University and studied at the National School of Decorative Arts in Aubusson, France.  She has won awards for her public art projects, including a Fulbright travel grant, a National Endowment for the Arts Artists Fellowship, and a Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, among many others.  Adams has created public art in cities throughout the United States including Seattle, New York, Denver, San Antonio, and Fort Lauderdale.  She writes that she designs her site-specific installations “to intrigue and engage viewers immediately.”  Her goal is “to weave into the project references that are discovered over time and that are intended to enrich people’s daily passages back and forth.”

Jackie Ferrara

Jackie Ferrara was born in Detroit, Michigan.  She has created large-scale public architectural and landscape works since the 1970s in such places as Houston, New York City, Phoenix, Los Angeles, and San Diego.  Her projects are influenced by the use and users of the site and typically serve functions such as plazas, walkways, amphitheaters, and towers.  Ferrara’s work has been featured in numerous books and periodicals, including Harriet Senie’s Contemporary Public Sculpture (Oxford UP, 1993).  About her work she writes, “I am committed . . . to discovering new and unexpected ways to impact public spaces [and] to meaningfully interface with the site.”

Barbara Grygutis

Barbara Grygutis received her B.F.A. and M.F.A. in ceramics from the University of Arizona.  Over the past twenty-five years, she has created more than sixty commissions of public art throughout the United States and Canada, including installations in Las Vegas, Boston, Philadelphia, Denver, and Calgary.  Grygutis has won numerous awards for her work, including the Design Arts Award given by the National Endowment for the Arts.  According to the artist, her works “create a visual storyline throughout the space that inspire dialogue, contemplation, and celebration.”

Andrew Leicester

Andrew Leicester completed two M.F.A. degrees in sculpture at Manchester University in Manchester, England and at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.  He has won numerous awards for his public art projects, including the Design for Transportation National Award given by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the Top Honor Award given by the Urban Land Institute.  Working internationally in public art since the 1970s, Leicester has completed more than thirty projects in cities such as Charlotte, San Jose, Los Angeles, Cincinnati, Melbourne, and Cardiff.  Leicester writes that his projects “serve a didactic function and include layers of information and meaning which often stimulates lively debate.”
