| UCA ARTS FEE RESIDENCIES

writers, filmmakers, and arts exhibitions to the UCA campus for one or more days for
the purpose of expanding student learning experiences by offering the

UCA ARTS FEE RESIDENCIES
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the maximum size of any single residency grant?
There is approximately $95,000 available each year and this total
amount could be used as a grant match for a single
major residency. Past grants have ranged from approximately $1,000 to
$25,000.
Should I think in terms of major artists?
Yes. The selection criteria place emphasis on artistic stature and on the
residency’s impact on UCA’s state-wide image.
What if the artist or exhibition must be secured more than one year in
advance?
In such special cases, commitments can be made now and the necessary
deposits placed.
Can residencies be linked to classes?
Absolutely. You might propose a guest artist who integrates into a
particular part of your syllabus or who provides a culminating class.
Do residencies have to occur during the regular academic year?
No. Residencies could, for example, be linked to a summer course. It
might then have a special audience–other professionals, teachers.
If my residency is approved, what is my obligation?
The college office handles all administrative matters such as
contracts, state approval forms, checks, etc. Public Appearances handles
the public performance if it is scheduled in the Reynolds Performance
Hall. You would be responsible for meeting and escorting your artist as
well as the logistics for all residency activities.
When do I have contact with the artist?
Generally you are placed in contact with the artist as early as the
pre-application period. Successful residencies take careful, ongoing
planning between the artist and the sponsor; consequently, selection
decisions are made a year in advance to assure adequate time for you to
work closely with the artist on planning the residency.
There are colleagues at other universities that provide excellent
education experiences for our students. Can I get funds to bring these
teacher/artists?
It will depend on the artist. Residency funds are committed to
bring UCA students in contact with professional artists with national or
international stature. Departments have other arts fee monies available to fund residencies and performances not
appropriate for this campus-wide residency program.
