Speaker Series

Each semester, through the UCA Artists in Residence Program and the College of Fine Arts and Communication, the Department of Writing invites acclaimed writers to visit UCA, hold master classes with writing students, and give a free public reading/talk for the campus and community.

 

2007 SPEAKER SERIES

 

Michael Cunningham is the Pulitzer-prize winning author of The Hours (recently adapted to a major motion picture starring Meryl Streep and Nicole Kidman) . He will read from his works and take questions on October 16th at 7:30 PM in Stanley Russ Hall Room 103.

 

Naomi Shihab Nye, poet and essayist, writes about the Middle East and her own Arab-American heritage. She will give a reading of her work on November 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center, Room 5AB.

 

George Singleton is a member of the South Carolina Governor's School faculty and is the author of four collections of shorts stories: These People Are Us (2001), The Half-Mammals of Dixie (2002), Why Dogs Chase Cars (2004), and Drowning in Gruel (2006). His novel, Novel, was published in 2005. He will read from his works and take questions on April 15, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in Stanley Russ Hall Room 103.
