University of Central Arkansas

The Ph.D. program in communication sciences and disorders, offered through a consortium of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and the University of Central Arkansas, is a research-based program designed to prepare graduates to be faculty members and scientists at institutions of higher education.

The program is rigorous in its research and scientific base, yet it allows for several different areas of specialization and correlated areas in related disciplines. Graduates will be prepared for research, grant writing, teaching, and supervision through pedagogy, mentorship, and internship activities in many areas.

The consortium structure provides the opportunity for interdisciplinary research in both medically-oriented sites and in conventional college campus locations. Doctoral students will have opportunities to collaborate on research with specialists working with the full range of the population, from children to the elderly and with disciplines including otolaryngology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing, psychology, and special education. Students will have access to research facilities to study fluency, swallowing, auditory perception, language development, electrophysiology, and other areas.
