| The mission of the Department of Physical Therapy is to assist the University and College in improving the quality of life for all Arkansans by providing the state of Arkansas with high quality physical therapy didactic and clinical education. The faculty seek to produce physical therapy and physical therapist assisting practitioners who will help meet identified health needs in Arkansas as well as in other states. Development of the physical therapy profession occurs through innovative and creative professional growth, service, consultation and inservice education, scholarship and research and is necessary in maintaining quality instruction. A spirit of collegiality among faculty and between faculty and students is essential to achievement of the mission. |

| 1. Graduates of the MS program in Physical Therapy will be prepared to practice independently in the variety of health care settings. | 1a. Students will earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 in the professional curriculum prior to beginning clinical internships. 1b. Students will earn a grade of C or better in each course in the professional curriculum. 1c. Students will earn a grade of B or better in each of the three final clinical internship courses. 1d. Ninety-nine percent of the students will successfully write the licensure exam in two attempts. (85% to be successful on the first attempt.) 1e. Eighty-five percent of responding graduates and employers will indicate average or above in rating the performance of graduates in various health care settings. |
| 2. Graduates of the MS program in Physical Therapy will be prepared to engage in research activities as a team member. | 2a. Students will earn a grade of C or better in the two research courses within the curriculum. 2b. Ten percent of the students will publish and 30% will present their group research results at the state or national level within two years of graduation. |
| 3. Graduates of the MS program in Physical Therapy will be able to plan for the overall operation of a physical therapy service. | 3a. Students will earn a grade of C or better in the administrative course in the curriculum. 3b. Students will earn a grade of B or better in administrative tasks during clinical internship courses. 3e. Fifty percent of responding recent graduates (1-3 years since graduation) will indicate administrative responsibilities among their job descriptions. 3d. Eighty percent of responding employers will indicate that graduates correctly perform administrative tasks. |
| 4. Graduates of the MS program in Physical Therapy will have the skills to serve successfully as a clinical instructor or Coordinator for Clinical Education for PT or PTA students and teach units of courses in PT or PTA curricula. | 4. Seventy percent of responding graduates with three or more years experience will indicate that they have served as a clinical instructor or coordinator or have taught one or more units in a PT or PTA curriculum. |
| 5. Graduates of the MS program in Physical Therapy will have developed introductory skills in a specialty area of practice. | 5a. Students will earn a grade of C or better in all elective (specialty) coursework in the curriculum and a grade of B or better in at least one elective (specialty) course. 5b. Students will earn a grade of B or better in the clinical internship specialty course. 5c. Ten percent of responding graduates with 3 or more years experience will indicate preparation for specialty certification. |
| 6. For students electing the thesis option: Graduates of the MS program in Physical Therapy will have developed research skills in preparation for doctoral study or clinical research. | 6a. Five percent of the students will elect to write a thesis and will successfully complete coursework with grades of C or better in Thesis I and Thesis II. 6b. Fifty percent of responding thesis graduates will indicate enrollment or plans to enroll in doctoral study or participation in clinical research within three years of graduation. |
