Statement of Departmental Purpose

The Department's mission is to prepare speech-language pathologists who are capable and fully qualified to provide independent professional services to individuals with a wide range of communication needs. Excellence in classroom and clinical instruction is our primary focus. Research and scholarship are vital to the growth and development of our profession and a necessary component of this department. Fostering a spirit of significant expectation and achievement among students and faculty is important as we strive to become a community of learners for continued professional participation and development.

A hallmark of this department's mission is responsiveness to the needs of the state. There is a significant shortage of fully qualified speech-language pathologists to serve infants, toddlers, children, youth, and adults with disabilities in Arkansas. The department is committed to addressing this need through transdisciplinary approaches and innovative curricula.
