Welcome to the College of Education
We welcome you to the College of Education website. As you review the home pages of our departments, you will find descriptions of our degree programs, community service opportunities, research endeavors, resources available for students and faculty, and faculty/staff contact information. The College is organized into three academic departments and two support departments, all committed to the delivery of programs of excellence as evidenced by our current accreditation status by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. UCA maintains its strong historical commitment to prepare professionals for the field of education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. At the undergraduate level, candidates are prepared to work in the fields of early childhood, middle childhood, and business education with a strong emphasis placed on performance-based curriculum designed to prepare highly qualified teachers. Professionals interested in advanced study may select from graduate programs in the areas of College Student Personnel, Instructional Technology, Leadership Studies, Library Media, Reading, School Counseling, School Leadership, Special Education, Teaching and Learning, and Training Systems. A strong emphasis on reflective decision making, performance standards, collaboration, and professional ethics are inclusive of all programs of study. College faculty are recognized as highly knowledgeable and skilled scholars in their field of study. You will find the faculty to be student centered and dedicated to providing excellence in teaching. They are passionate about student learning and take great pride in working with students as they prepare to enter the professional field of education. Over the years, college faculty have been recipients of the UCA Excellence in Teaching, Service, and Research awards as well as numerous honors from state and national organizations. We welcome students possessing an enthusiasm for learning and a desire to touch the hearts and minds of others. We appreciate your interest in the College of Education and invite you to visit us in Mashburn Hall and through our department websites. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 501-450-3175. Dr. Kathleen Atkins, |
