For library media specialists hoping to start a family literacy program, this is a good place to start looking for ideas and funding. The website includes summaries of various state initiatives in the area of family literacy and offers publications, such as “Barbara Bush’s Family Reading Tips”, for a nominal fee. http://www.read2kids.org Established in 1989, this is a non-profit organization that supports family literacy, and focuses mostly on reading aloud to children. Through this organization, many resources that a LMS could share with families to help promote literacy in the home are made available. There are tips for writing grants, curriculum ideas, parent-child activities, marketing strategies, and more.
