The Second Annual State Teacher Recruitment Conference! Thursday October 17, 2002 The Teachers of Tomorrow Academy
(TOT) is a collaborative partnership including Pulaski County Special School
District, North Little Rock School District, Little Rock School District,
University of Central Arkansas, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Henderson
State University, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Teachers of
Tomorrow 2002 According to the National
Education Association we are facing the most critical teacher shortage in
history. Nationwide, some 2.4 million teachers will be needed in the next 11
years because of teacher attrition, retirement, and increased student
enrollment. Teachers of Tomorrow is a pre-professional organization whose goal
is to create, encourage, and support clubs that recruit annually a cohort of
outstanding students who are motivated toward preparation for a teaching career.
Location:
Brewer-Hegeman Conference Center at the University of Central Arkansas
Guest Speaker:
Ken Johnson
Growing up in the inner-city of Dallas,
Texas, Ken was raised on welfare and lived in a two bedroom apartment with nine
people. Ken found two ways to pull himself and his family out of their bleak
circumstances. He began selling drugs to assist himself and his family while
working hard to become a star athlete. In spite of obstacles, students can follow
their dreams. Ken Johnson is an inspirational example as he shares his story.
