Teacher Performance Outcomes Assessment

The Teacher Performance Outcomes Assessment (TPOA) serves as both a formative and a summative assessment instrument. The instrument should be used to assist teacher candidates with academic growth and professional development throughout their teacher preparation programs. The TPOA does not correlate with the A, B, C, D, F grading system.

Teacher candidates are expected to demonstrate progress in the classroom as they move through their programs. When teacher candidates complete their final internships, they should demonstrate teaching effectiveness with no Unsatisfactory performance levels on any of the criteria. As teacher candidates begin their teaching careers, they will set goals to achieve the Distinguished level.

The TPOA is adopted from Enhancing Professional Practice: A Framework for Teaching (Danielson, 1996) and from Pathwise Classroom Observation system developed by ETS.
