GRADUATE COUNCIL MINUTES

The Graduate Council
met in regular session on February 15, 2001 in BBA 220. Members present were: Cathy Caldwell, Donna Foss, Ken Freiley, Linda Griffith,,
Ronn Hy, Don Jones, Elaine McNiece,
Chair, Margaret Morgan, John Murphy, Tom Oxner, Armand Picou, Ira Saltz, Jeff
Showell, Conrad Shumaker, Sheila Stroman, Glenda Thurman, and LaKeitha
Hartfield, student representative.
Members absent: Terry James, Jane Lammers, Venita Lovelace-Chandler, and
Doug Isanhart. Also in attendance Jonathan Glenn, Chairing a portion of the
meeting.

Council Minutes from January 18, 2001 were approved as distributed.

recommended approval on the following Graduate Faculty Application:

Motion passed unanimously.
III. New Course Proposals/Pre MBA Leveling
Subcommittee II recommended, Oxner seconded to approve the following
Pre-MBA Leveling Courses, with revisions, for non-degree credit:

Subcommittee II recommended, seconded by Morgan, to approve the

Subcommittee II recommended, Morgan seconded, to approve the following
new course proposals with revisions:

(Replaces MBA 6601 Integration of Business Disciplines)
Recommendation passed unanimously.
VI. New Graduate Certificate Program in Geographic Information
Systems with New Course Proposals
Subcommittee III recommended approval, Shumaker seconded, of the new
certificate program and course proposals:
GEOG 5315 Mapping Fundamentals for Geographic
Information Systems (previously approved)
GEOG 5320 Technical Issues in Geographic
Information Systems (previously approved)
GEOG 5323 Geographic Information Systems
(previously approved)
GEOG 5328 Spatial Analysis and Modeling
GEOG 5333 Vector-based GIS Techniques with
ArcInfo
GEOG 5340 Fundamentals of Database Design and
Development
GEOG 5345 Digital Image Processing for GIS
All but the courses listed as previously approved will be for
non-degree credit. Motion passes unanimously.
VII. New
Course Proposal/Biology
Subcommittee III recommended approval of the following:
BIOL 5425 Experimental
Neurobiology
Approved contingent upon inclusion of grading scale and clarification
on separation from the undergraduate as this is a double listed course. Motion passed unanimously.
VIII. New Course Proposal/Math
Subcommittee III recommended approval of the following:
MATH 5315 Introduction to Partial Differential
Equations
Motion passed unanimously.
IX. New Course Proposals/OTHY
The new course proposals in Occupation Therapy were removed from the
table. Subcommittee III recommended approval with the addition of the words >for Occupational Therapy= added to the title listed below:

Performance I
OTHY 5325 Foundations in Mental Health >for Occupational Therapy=
Motion passed unanimously.
