Professor Randall L. Pouwels's interests are in Native American History of the Southwest, African History, and Islamic/Middle Eastern History. For eighteen years, he has taught African and Islamic History courses at UCA, and now he is introducing new ones on Native American history and archaeology of the Southwest.
Dr. Pouwels is the co-author of World Civilizations, 4th edition, along with Phillip Adler. This text was published in 2005, and is used in many sections of the UCA World History courses. He also recently published with Oxford University Press, The Middle East and Africa, 600-1500, a textbook for use in Middle Schools.
Dr. Pouwels has been at work on a new book, tentatively entitled East Africa and the Indian Ocean, 300-1832. He also has been doing preliminary research for a second book on the history of the American Southwest, ca 10,000 B.C. to 1600 A. D.
