David Welky received his B.A. from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in 1993, his M.A. from Purdue University in 1996, and his Ph.D. from Purdue in 2001. He teaches a variety of courses in twentieth-century United States history and specializes in the cultural history of the 1920s and 1930s. He has written a number of books and articles on the history of film, sports, and the mass media. Dr. Welky forthcoming publications include a monograph on middle-class culture during the Great Depression and book-length study of Hollywood and the coming of World War II. Born and raised in St. Louis, he spends much of his free time watching old movies, chasing his one-year-old son around the house, and enjoying a warm, comfortable feeling every time he thinks about the St. Louis Cardinals’ recent World Series victory.
