"Teaching and Learning with Computer Technology: Moving Toward an
Ubiquitous Computing Environment"

The primary mission of the University of Central Arkansas is to "maintain the highest academic quality and to ensure that its curriculum remains current and responsive to the needs of those it serves." In order to fulfill this mission today, UCA faculty need opportunities to develop learning activities that utilize the powerful resources of information technology. The Technology Faculty Associates program was designed to provide such opportunities. Since the Summer of 2000, selected faculty members from across the University have been brought together for a week-long training seminar on learning management systems, on uses of information technology in teaching, and they have been provided with a state-of-the-art laptop computer for instructional use. All participants in the program are then given opportunities for on-going learning through a series of workshops, information technology events and access to support personnel. By teaching faculty new ways to reach their students─including through the use of course shells, slide show programs and other technological instructional aids─the program seeks to ensure that UCA students develop the critical reasoning and information communication skills they will need as they enter the world.
