Department of Political Science: Careers in Public Service Day

Welcome to the website of the "Careers in Public Service" Day, which will be held on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas on Wednesday, September 19, 2007!  The primary purpose of "Careers in Public Service" Day is to raise awareness of career possibilities in the public and non-profit sectors and to provide UCA students with information on graduate programs in the fields of public administration, public policy, sociology, international studies, and political science.

Schedule - Wednesday, September 19th (12:00noon-5:00pm) - UCA Student Center

12:00pm-1:10pm, SC 215A.  Luncheon with keynote speaker, John Selig, Director of the Arkansas Department of Human Services.  No cost for lunch but please RSVP to Dr. Joseph Howard at jhoward@uca.edu or Dr. Kim Hoffman at khoffman@uca.edu.  Space is limited.

1:15pm-2:25pm, SC 214A.  Panel on the careers in the federal government.  Panelists include James Hedrick, Presidential Management Fellow, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; Ronald Gill, Faculty Engineer, U.S. Department of Energy; Charles E. Polk III, TSA Assistant Federal Security Director - Screening Operations Little Rock Hub; Camron Doss, U.S. General Services Administration Assistant Property Manager for the Ark-La-Tex Service Center; and Samantha Cutler, Attorney, US Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

2:30pm-3:40pm, SC 214A.  Panel on careers in state/local government.  Panelists include Janet Miller Harris, Deputy Secretary of State, State of Arkansas; Hon. Tab Townsell, Mayor of Conway; Patrick Ralston, Legislative Analyst, Arkansas Bureau of Legislative Research; and Bryan Day, Assistant City Manager, City of Little Rock.

3:45pm-4:55pm, SC 214A.  Panel on careers with non-profit organizations.  Panelists include Anna Kay Williams, Trustee, Vice President of Communications & Programs for the Charles A. Frueauff Foundation; Hunter Goodman, Executive Director of the Arkansas Coalition for Excellence; Samantha Huseas, Executive Director of the United Way of Faulkner County; and Debra Robinson, Executive Director of the Faulkner County Senior Citizens Program.
