COUNCIL OF DEANS
June 29, 2001
The Council of Deans met in regular session at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2001, in the Provost's Conference Room. Sam Buchanan presided, and the following council members were present: Bob Everding, Jonathan Glenn, Neil Hattlestad, Joe Horton, Maurice Lee, Elaine McNiece, Sally Roden, and Ron Toll. Debbie Barnes represented Jane McHaney.
The COD minutes of June 20 were approved as circulated.
McNiece presented the Graduate Council minutes of June 19.
McNiece moved to recommend the following applicants for graduate faculty status:

Hattlestad seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
McNiece moved to recommend a new MS program and courses in College Student Personnel Services Administration, which replaces the existing MS in Student Personnel Services in Higher Education and moves the program from the Department of Psychology and Counseling to the Graduate School of Management, Leadership, and Administration. The program follows:

Horton seconded the motion. Following discussion, the motion passed unanimously.
McNiece moved to recommend a proposal to change the MSE in Spanish to an MA degree, and the following new course:

Lee seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Buchanan shared information about a leadership program through the University of Arkansas.
Dean Reports
Glenn (1) announced that Terry James will serve as interim director of academic planning and assessment beginning Monday, July 2; (2) thanked the deans for their cooperation in responding to concerns about closed sections.
Horton told the council that he has enjoyed working with the group. Buchanan thanked him for his service, and Hattlestad echoed the appreciation, and praised him for his insight.
Lee reported on a recent conference in Hot Springs that was attended by Governor Huckabee and other southern governors.
Barnes (1) stated that AETN had given good coverage to Mark Cooper and the "Superkids" program; (2) reported on the program and graduation ceremony for Junior University; (3) indicated that the College of Education's annual report was complete and being distributed.
Toll reported on a recent technology meeting in Chicago.
Roden reminded the deans to submit names for panel members during Welcome Week activities.
Hattlestad reminded deans about the National Conference of Academic Deans, which is being hosted by UCA.
Following a motion by Horton and second by Everding, the meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
