COUNCIL OF DEANS
December 19, 2001
The Council of Deans met in regular session at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 19, 2001, in the Provost's Conference Room. Sam Buchanan presided, and the following council members were present: Gabriel Esteban, Bob Everding, Jonathan Glenn, Neil Hattlestad, Jane McHaney, Elaine McNiece, Sally Roden, and Ron Toll. Joe Delap represented Maurice Lee.
The COD minutes of December 12 were approved as amended.
Glenn distributed annual report guidelines. Following discussion, Hattlestad recommended that the report become an annual assessment summary focusing on specific points from the assessment plans. The deans agreed with the recommendation.
Buchanan led a discussion of final grades and posting requirements. McNiece suggested changing the academic calendar to allow extra time for both the faculty and the offices posting grades and scholarships. Buchanan indicated that there was a possibility of adding the necessary time.
Buchanan (1) asked the deans to consider the composition of the Council of Deans for discussion in January; (2) stated that January 9 would be the next meeting.
Dean Reports
Toll (1) announced that the NSF awarded $110,000 in grant monies for a 300mh NMR for the Chemistry Department; (2) announced the hiring of a new organic chemist; (3) stated that UCA did very well in developing proposals for SURF fellowships.
Roden asked the deans to start thinking about Welcome Week for 2002.
Following a motion by Esteban and second by Everding, the meeting adjourned at 10:10am.
