Members Present:

            Horton, Debbie Howell, Dawn Jakubowski, Jennifer Johnson, Alice Kostka, Mandy Maples, Rahul Mehta,
            Mohamed Nour, Tony Sitz.  

Members Absent:

Charles Harvey, Elizabeth Smith, and Conrad Stantiski.   

1.          Meeting was called to order by Chair Roden.

    2.         President Hardin addressed the council regarding the proposal of a new course FYFS 1320 – First Year
                Experience:  An Introduction to Higher Learning.

    3.         Dr. Tammy Benson acted as Interim Chair while the following new course proposal was presented to the
                council.  

Dr. Joe Horton, Chair of Subcommittee II, moved to recommend approval of a new course FYFS 1320 – First Year Experience:  An Introduction to Higher Learning.   Dr. Mary Harlan seconded the motion.  Discussion followed.  Motion passed 12 yes, 4 no, 2 no by proxy, 0 abstentions.  

4.         Minutes of the March 18, 2003, meeting were approved as circulated.  

5.         Chair Roden thanked Dr. Debbie Howell, Dr. Conrad Stanitski, Dr. Becky Williams for their service on the council, and student representatives, Alice Kostka and Mandy Maples for their  work while serving on the Undergraduate Council this past year.  

6.         Dr. Joe Horton, Chair of Subcommittee II, moved to recommend approval of a new course PSYC 3305 – Health Psychology.  Dr. Jakubowski seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously.  

Dr. Horton moved to recommend approval of the 3/2 Engineering Articulation Program with the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville School of Engineering.  Dr. Benson seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously.  

7.         Dr. Jennifer Johnson, Chair of Subcommittee III, moved to recommend approval of the following curriculum changes in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology.  

                       a.         Change in minimum semester credit hours for the major from 42 to 47.
                            b.         Change following courses from a requirement to an elective:
                                                1.         SPTH 4110 – Clinical Seminar I
                                                2.         SPTH 4111 – Clinical Seminar II
                                                3.         SPTH 4115 – Clinical Practicum I
                                                4.         SPTH 4116 – Clinical Practicum II
                            c.         SPTH 4304 – Public School Speech Therapy – (change from elective to required)
                            d.         SPTH 2306 – Anatomical and Physiological Bases of Communication I (new course)
                            e.         SPTH 3330 – Clinical Methods for Language Disorders (new course)
                            f.          Course level change for the following:
                                                1.         SPTH 3301 – Articulation Disorders to SPTH 4301
                                                2.         SPTH 3310 – Fundamentals of Audiology to SPTH 4311  

            Dr. Howell seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously.  

                        Dr. Johnson moved to recommend approval of the following curriculum changes in the Department of
                        Management Information Systems.  

                       a.         MIS 4180 – MIS Project 1 (new course)
                            b.         MIS 4280 – MIS Project 2 (new course)
                            c.         MIS 4380 – MIS Project 3 (new course)
                            d.         Add CSCI 1480 – Computer Science II as an elective for the MIS Programmer/Analyst track
                            e.         GIS/Spatial Systems Track (new track)  

            Dr. Cangelosi seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously.  

8.         Dr. Joe Cangelosi, Interim Chair of Subcommittee I, presented a package of curriculum changes from the Department of Mass Communication and Theatre.  Dr. Benson made a motion to hold another called meeting of the Undergraduate Council during the week of finals to consider the package in order to give additional time for the department to make revisions.  Dr. Howell seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously.

            a.         ECON 4375 – Economics of Developing Nations (designate as an intensive writing course and change bulletin description)

            b.         INSU 3324 – Risk and Insurance (designate as an intensive writing course and change bulletin description)
