Minutes Undergraduate Council Meeting
April 18, 2006
Members Present:
Steve Addison, George Bratton, Lorien Foote, Richard Gaughan, Brooks Green, Mary Harlan, Bill Kordsmeier, Erick McCarthy, Patty Phelps, Han-Chieh Wei, Jeff Whittingham,
Members Absent:
Joe Anderson, Lynn Burley, Tony Sitz, Elizabeth Smith, Ann Witcher and Steve Zeltmann. Williams.
The items of the agenda included:
1. Meeting was called to order by Dr. Sally A. Roden, Chair.
2. Minutes of the March 28, 2006 meeting were approved as circulated.
3. Chair Roden thanked Steve Addison, Bill Kordsmeier, Elizabeth Smith and Ann Witcher, as their terms expire, for serving on the Undergraduate Council.
4. Report of Subcommittee I – Bill Kordsmeier, Chair
Chair Kordsmeier moved to remove from the table GEOG 3318 – Biogeography. Dr. Bratton seconded the motion. Chair Kordsmeier moved to recommend approval of GEOG 3318 – Biogeography. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
5. Report of Subcommittee II – Jeff Whittingham, Chair
Chair Whittingham moved to recommend approval of Departmental Response to External Review of an Undergraduate Program for the BA and BFA Program – Department of Art. Dr. Harlan seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Chair Whittingham moved to recommend approval of Departmental Response to External Review of an Undergraduate Program for the BA/BS/Honors – Department of Psychology. Dr. Phelps seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Chair Whittingham moved to recommend approval of PSYC 3306 – Positive Psychology. Dr. Kordsmeier seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
6. Report of Subcommittee III – Lorien Foote, Chair
Chair Foote moved to recommend approval of a new International Studies Program for both a major and minor. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Chair Foote moved to recommend approval of GEOG 3345 – The Geography of Pacific Asia. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
The information items included:
1. Change from a requirement to an elective:
a. ART 4302 – Directed Study
b. ART 4372 – Senior Seminar
2. Replace WRTG 3305 – Advanced Composition with WRTG 3340 – Teaching Writing in the Mid-Level Grades in the Department of Middle/Secondary Education and Instructional Technologies – Middle Level Program.
