Minutes Undergraduate Council Meeting
February 20, 2001
Members Present:
Catherine Acre, Ami Barile, Tammy Benson, Joe Cangelosi, David Harvey, Rob Holden, Debbie Howell-Creswell, Dawn Jakubowski, David Kim, Lauretta Koenigseder, Ira Saltz, Wayne Stengel, Rebecca Williams, Tony Sitz, and Valerie Williams.
Members Absent:
Karen Craig, Jim Mainord, Sally Roden, and Conrad Stanitski.
The items of the agenda included:
I. Meeting was called to order by Dr. Catherine Acre, Interim Chair of Undergraduate Council.
II. Minutes of the January 16, 2001 meeting
Interim Chair Acre asked for corrections to the minutes of the January 16, 2001 meeting of the Undergraduate Council. Under information items, the minutes should be corrected to reflect the Art Department inquired about the feasibility of offering a B.A. Studio Degree with an Art History Minor instead of an Art History Major. The minutes were approved as corrected.
III. Report from Subcommittee I
Dr. Debbie Howell-Creswell, Chair of Subcommittee I, moved to recommend approval of the Teacher Preparation Program Revisions. Dr. Benson seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Debbie Barnes was invited in to answer council questions. Discussion continued. Motion passed unanimously pending submission of program revisions suggested by the council.
IV. Report from Subcommittee II
Dr. Becky Williams, Chair of Subcommittee II, moved to recommend approval of the following new courses:
FREN 2340 - Intensive Oral Practice Abroad in French
GERM 2340 - Intensive Oral Practice Abroad in German
SPAN 2340 - Intensive Oral Practice Abroad in Spanish
FREN 3340 - Intensive Oral Practice Abroad in French
GERM 3340 - Intensive Oral Practice Abroad in German
SPAN 3340 - Intensive Oral Practice Abroad in Spanish
Courses designated as 2340 will not count toward a foreign language major, minor, or B.A. requirement. Courses designated as 3340 may serve as electives for the appropriate foreign language majors. Dr. Benson seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
V. Report from Subcommittee III
Dr. David Kim, Chair, Subcommittee III moved to recommend approval of MATH 4315 - Introduction to Partial Differential Equations. Dr. Stengel seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Kim moved to send INFO 3315 - Diversity/Multicultural Communications back to the College Curriculum Committee for approval and then be returned to the Undergraduate Council. Dr. Holden seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Kim moved to recommend approval of changes in the B.S. Degree: Applied Mathematics Option. Dr. Benson seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Kim moved to recommend approval of a course number change from MATH 3321 to MATH 2371 - Calculus III. Dr. Benson seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Meeting was adjourned at 2:45 p.m.
