Minutes Undergraduate Council Meeting
February 21, 2006
Members Present:
Steve Addison, Joe Anderson,
George Bratton, Lynn Burley, Lorien Foote, Brooks Green, Richard Gaughan,
Mary Harlan,
Bill Kordsmeier,
Erick McCarthy, Patty Phelps,
Han-Chieh Wei, Elizabeth Smith, Jeff Whittingham, Ann Witcher,
Steve Zeltmann, and Valerie Williams.
Members Absent:
Tony Sitz
The items of the agenda included:
1. Meeting was called to order by Dr. Sally A. Roden, Chair.
2. Minutes of the January 24, 2006 meeting were approved as circulated.
3. Report of Subcommittee II – Jeff Whittingham, Chair.
Chair Whittingham moved to recommend approval of the following revisions to the Economics Minor with an editorial change.
1. Delete ECON 1310 – Modern Political Economy
2. Change ECON 4333 – Intermediate Microeconomics from an elective
to a required course
3. Change ECON 4370 – Intermediate Macroeconomics from an elective
to a required course
Dr. Addison seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Dr. Joe Horton was
invited in to answer council questions.
Motion passed unanimously.
Chair Whittingham moved to recommend approval to move MGMT 2301 –
Business Communication to a web-based course
and MGMT 3351 – Managing Diversity in the Workplace to a web-based course. Dr. Harlan
seconded the motion. Motion
passed unanimously.
4. Report of Subcommittee I – Bill Kordsmeier, Chair
Chair Kordsmeier moved to recommend approval of a new course WRTG 3340 –
Teaching Writing in the Mid-level Grades.
Dr. Bratton seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
The information item included:
ECON 4380 – Seminar in Economics title change to Senior Seminar in Economics and bulletin revision.
