Minutes Undergraduate Council Meeting
Members Present:
Nelle Bedner, Tammy Benson, Joe Cangelosi, Nealon DeVore, Richard Gaughan, Mary Harlan, David Harvey, Joe Horton, Dawn Jakubowski, Rahul Mehta, Elizabeth Smith, Curtis Wilder, Misty Williams, and Valerie Williams.
Members Absent:
John Choinski, Charles Harvey, Wes Hennings, Jennifer Johnson, Ann Witcher , and Tony Sitz.
The items of the agenda included:
1. Meeting was called to order by Dr. Sally A. Roden, Chair.
2. Minutes of the November 18, 2003 meeting were approved as circulated.
3. Report of Subcommittee II – Dr. Rahul Mehta, Chair.
4. Dr. Mehta moved to approve in the Department of Management Information Systems a new Track in Telecommunications and Computer Networks along with a new courses MIS 4363 – Wireline and Wireless Telecommunications as part of the new track. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Mehta moved to approve the following changes for ECON 3330 – Environmental Economics:
1. Change semester offering from fall to spring.
2. 2. Prerequisite change from no perquisite required to ECON 1310 – Modern Political Economy or ECON 2321 – Principles of Microeconomics.
Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Mehta moved to approve three new courses in the Department of English; ENGL 2316 – English Literature I, ENGL 2317 – English Literature II, ENGL 2318 – English Literature III, and delete two courses, ENGL 2310 – English Literature I, ENGL 2311 – English Literature II. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Motion passed unanimously.
5. Report of Subcommittee I – Dr. Joe Cangelosi, Chair
Dr. Cangelosi moved to approve changes to the BSE Social Studies degree to include changing the following courses from electives to required; SOC 1300 – Principles of Sociology, GEOG 1320 – Introduction to Human Geography, GEOG 1315 – Introduction to Physical Geography; and ECON 1310 – Modern Political Economy. Ms. Williams seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Cangelosi indicated the subcommittee had no recommendation on two new courses in the Department of Writing and Speech; WRTG 3330 – Forms of Nonfiction, and WRTG 3335 – Forms of Fiction. Discussion was held. Dr. Harlan moved to approve the new courses WRTG 3330 and WRTG 3335. Dr. Bedner seconded the motion. Discussion continued. Motion passed 11 yes, 1 no, 0 abstentions.
The information items included:
1. RELG 2333 – Christian Bible title change to Christian Scriptures.
2. RELG 2333 – Christian Scriptures revised bulletin description:
From: An optional core course for all students majoring or minoring in religious studies, and elective for other interested students, and counts toward the major or minor in philosophy. Critically studies the major teachings of the Old Testament. Combines lecture and discussion. On demand.
To: An optional core course for all students majoring or minoring in religious studies, and elective for other interested students, and counts toward the major or minor in philosophy. Critically studies the major teachings of the Jewish Scriptures. Combines lecture and discussion. On demand.
3. New music prefixes:
MUSA (Applied Music courses)
MUSE ( Ensemble courses)
4. Music course renumbering and renaming (see attached.)
5. Music course deletions (see attached.)
