Minutes Undergraduate Council Meeting
January 25, 2005
Members Present:
Joe Anderson, George Bratton, Lynn Burley, Lorien Foote, Richard Gaughan, Mary Harlan, Joe Horton, Jennifer Johnson, Kevin Kendrick, Bill Kordsmeier, Mike Scoles, Elizabeth Smith, Conrad Stanitski, Ann Witcher, Jeff Whittingham, Valerie Williams, and Steve Zeltmann.
Members Absent:
Michelle Bridges, Charles Harvey and Tony Sitz
The items of the agenda included:
1. Meeting was called to order by Dr. Sally A. Roden, Chair.
2. Minutes of the November 16, 2004 meeting were approved as circulated.
3. Report of Subcommittee III – Elizabeth Smith, Chair.
Ms. Smith moved to recommend approval of a new course PSCI 4390 – Internship in Political Science. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Ms. Smith moved to recommend approval of a new course HIST 4338 – American History Through Film. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Dr. Anderson moved to table the proposal requesting the History Department and the Department of Mass Communication and Theatre get together for further discussion. Dr. Zeltmann seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Ms. Smith moved to recommend approval to add WRTG 2350/WLAN 2350 – World Languages as an elective to the Linguistics minor. Dr. Witcher seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Ms. Smith moved to recommend approval of a new course PSYC 3455 – Comparative Primatology with editorial changes. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Motion passed unanimously.
Ms. Smith moved to recommend approval of a new course PSYC 3345 – Evolutionary Psychology. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Course will serve as an elective for psychology majors. Dr. Island was invited in to answer council questions. Dr. Horton offered a friendly amendment to include both PSYC 1300 and BIOL 1400 as a prerequisite to the course along with editorial changes. Motion passed unanimously.
4. Report of Subcommittee I – Ann Witcher, Chair
Dr. Witcher moved to recommend approval of a new program option along with four new courses in the Department of Early Childhood and Special Education with editorial changes:
Instructional Specialist 0-8 Licensure Option with Existing BSE, P-4 Licensure Program.
ECSE 4321 – Working with Young Children with Disabilities and Their Families
ECSE 4322 – Assessment and Intervention Ages 0-8 with Disabilities
ECSE 4323 – Medical Aspects and Educational Programming for Young Children with Disabilities
ECSE 4324 – Practicum in Special EducationDr. Zeltmann seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

2. Deletion of the following courses in the Physical Therapy Program:
