Dr. Williams reported on the progress with consideration of revision of forms for the undergraduate curriculum proposals. A course syllabus might best serve as an example of one form of a proposed course. Dr. Williams requested the Council to review the forms in the Curriculum Development Process Guide (March, 1994) and recommend changes prior to the April meeting.

V. Report from Subcommittee III

Dr. David Kim, Chair of Subcommittee III moved to recommend approval of a new course ENGL 4360 - History and Development of the English Language. Dr. Holden seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

Majors and minors be required to take one of the following:

ENGL 3315 - Gender and Language, or
ENGL 4360 - History and Development of the English Language

Dr. Kim presented a proposal to allow a student to receive a B.S. Studio Art major with an Art History minor. No recommendation was presented as this was only a request for information from the Art Department.

Dr. Kim moved to recommend approval to allow students to pursue a B.A. and B.S. degree simultaneously, and in those cases where minors are required, one would be sufficient. Dr. Harvey seconded the motion. Discussion followed to include there would be no stipulations on total credit hours. Motion passed unanimously.

Dr. Kim presented a proposal from the UCA Faculty Athletic Committee to recommend that a transfer student with a 2.0 grade point average or higher be allowed to transfer D grades. Dr. Kim reported that the subcommittee has no recommendation at this time and that the magnitude of this request warrants consideration by all Council members. Discussion followed. The issue identified is, should UCA accept "D’s" from transfers? Dr. Bill Lide and Mr. Joe Darling met with the Council to discuss the proposal and answer questions. Dr. Kim then recommended that all Council members review the proposal and be ready to discuss at the April meeting of the Undergraduate Council.
