Minutes Undergraduate Council Meeting

Meeting was called to order by Dr. Sally A. Roden, Chair.
2.
Minutes of the October 15, 2002 meeting were approved with the following
corrections:
Change MLS prefix to MSL prefix under information items.
The
action items included:
1.
Report of Subcommittee I
Dr. Charles Harvey, Chair of
Subcommittee I, moved to recommend approval to split EDUC 3320 –
Introductory Strategies for Students with Diverse Learning Needs into two
courses. Title change for EDUC
3320 to Introductory Strategies for Students with Diverse Learning Needs:
P-4 and a new course number EDUC 3321 – Introductory Strategies for
Students with Diverse Learning Needs: Middle/Secondary. Dr. Horton seconded the motion.
Discussion followed. Motion
passed unanimously.
Dr. Charles Harvey moved to recommend approval of HIST 4358 – Recent American History with the submission of a bulletin description that fits the current bulletin description format and to reflect the new course as an elective course. Dr. Benson seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Dr. Ron Fritze, Chair of the History Department, was invited in to answer council questions. Discussion continued. Motion passed 11 yes, 0 no, 2 abstentions.
2. Report of Subcommittee II
Dr. Joe Horton, Chair of Subcommittee II, moved to recommend approval that BS in Health Education majors be required to take one of the following statistics courses: ECON 2330, or SOC 2321, or PSYC 2320, and to change SPCH 1310 from a required course to an elective for the BS in Health Education major. Dr. Charles Harvey seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Horton moved to recommend approval of SPTH
4230 – Fluency and Fluency Disorders with the clarification of what
semester the replaced course (SPTH 4220) will no longer be offered as part
of the program. Dr.
Jakubowski seconded the motion. Discussion
followed. Motion passed
unanimously.
Dr. Horton moved to recommend approval of SPTH
4330 – Neurogenic Communication Disorders with the clarification of what
semester the replaced course (SPTH 4320) will no longer be offered as part
of the program. Dr.
Jakubowski seconded the motion. Discussion
followed. Motion passed
unanimously.
The
information items included:
Course title change: HIST 4350 – America Since 1920 to America in Depression and War, 1920-1960.
