Minutes Undergraduate Council Meeting

November 21, 2000 

Members Present:

Catherine Acre, Ami Barile, Tanya Buchanan, Joe Cangelosi, Karen Craig, David Harvey, David Kim, Jim Mainord, Ira Saltz, Conrad Stanitski, Wayne Stengel, and Rebecca Williams.  

Members Absent: 

Lauretta Koenigseder, Tammy Benson, Debbie Howell-Criswell, Rob Holden, Dawn Jakubowski, and Tony Sitz. 

I.          Meeting was called to order by Dr. Sally Roden, Chair of Undergraduate Council. 

II.            Minutes of the September 19, 2000 meeting. 

The minutes of the September 19, 2000 meeting of the Undergraduate Council were accepted as circulated. 

III.       Report from Subcommittee II 

Dr. Rebecca Williams, Chair of Subcommittee II reported on the recommendations from the November 7, 2000 meeting of Subcommittee II. 

A.            Motion I 

Dr. Rebecca Williams, Chair of Subcommittee II made the motion to approve the following proposals:

1.                  A change in course level for Introduction to Geographic Information Systems from GEOG 2320 to GEOG 3311.

2.                  A change in course level for Cartography from GEOG 3375 to GEOG 2375.

 The motion was seconded by Ira Saltz and passed unanimously.

B.            Motion II

 Dr. Rebecca Williams, Chair of Subcommittee II made the motion to approve the reduction in Marketing minor from 30 to 21 hours and the addition of MKTG 2350 as an optional prerequisite to MKTG 3350 for the minor’s required 18 hours of elective courses with the following proposed changes:

                         Delete:             ACCT 2310 - Principles of Accounting I
                                                ACCT 2311 - Principles of Accounting II
                                                ECON 1310 - Modern Political Economy
                                                ECON 2320 - Principles of Macroeconomics
                                                ECON 2321 - Principles of Microeconomics

                                                MKTG 3350 - Principles of Marketing

                         Add:        MKTG 4320 - Selected Topics in Marketing
                                        MKTG 4352 - Retail Management
                                        MKTG 4356 - Fashion Merchandising and E-Commerce
                                        MKTG 4360 - Health Care Marketing
                                        MKTG 4361 - Marketing Planning for Health Care Organizations
                                        MKTG 4371 - Advertising
                                        MKTG 4372 - Sales Management
                                        MKTG 4373 - Public Relations
                                        MKTG 4390 - Special Problems in Marketing
                                        MGMT 2300 - Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship
                                        MGMT 4349 - Small Business Management

The motion was seconded by Dr. Joe Cangelosi and passed unanimoysly.                                                                           

IV.       Report from Subcommittee I  

Dr. Wayne Stengel reported on the proposed B.A. in Computer Science and the revisions to the existing B.S. in Computer Science degrees that were returned  to the council after being tabled at the Council of Deans.           

Dr. Stengel recommended that the Undergraduate Council reconsider the proposal with the additional information provided by Dr. Ali, Chair of the Computer Sciences Department.  After discussion, the council decided to stand by their original recommendations and forward them to the Council of Deans with the additional information.

V.        Report from Subcommittee III 

Dr. David Kim, Chair of Subcommittee III reported on the recommendations from the November 16, 2000 meeting of Subcommittee III. 

A.            Motion II: 

Dr. David Kim, Chair of Subcommittee III, made the motion to approve the Gender Studies minor to include the following:

And with editorial changes to include update on faculty involved. 

The motion was seconded by Dr. David Harvey, and it passed unanimously. 

V.            Information Items: 

1.            Prerequisite changes: 

$                    GEOG 2375 - Cartography change from GEOG 1315 or 1320 and GEOG 2345 to GEOG 1315 or 1320.

$                    GEOG 3311 - Introduction to Geographic Information Systems change from GEOG 2345 or consent of instructor to GEOG 2345 and GEOG 2375 or consent of instructor.

$                    MKTG 4320 - Selected Topics in Marketing change from MKTG 3350 to MKTG 2350 or MKTG 3350.

$                    MKTG 4352 - Retail Management change from MKTG 3350 to MKTG 2350 or MKTG 3350.

$                    MKTG 4371 - Advertising change from MKTG 3350 to MKTG 2350 or MKTG 3350.

$                    MKTG 4372 - Sales Management change from MKTG 3350 to MKTG 2350 or MKTG 3350.

$                    MKTG 4373 - Public Relations change from MKTG 3350 to MKTG 2350 or MKTG 3350. 

2.            Revised bulletin descriptions: 

·                     GEOG 311 – Introduction to Geographic Information Systems to include:  an elective for geography and other students and required for Geographic Information Science minors.

·                     GEOG 2375 – Cartography to include:  an elective for geography and other students and required for Geographic Information Science minors.
