Minutes Undergraduate Council Meeting

October 18, 2005

Members Present:

Joe Anderson, George Bratton, Lynn Burley, Lorien Foote, Richard Gaughan, Brooks Green, Mary Harlan, Bill Kordsmeier, Erick McCarthy, Elizabeth Smith, Jeff Whittingham, Steve Zeltmann, and Valerie Williams.

Members Absent:

Steve Addison, Patty Phelps, Han-Chieh Wei, and Ann Witcher

The items of the agenda included:

1.     Meeting was called to order by Dr. Sally A. Roden, Chair.

2.     Minutes of the August 8, 2005 meeting were approved as circulated.

3.     Chair Roden read the charge to the Undergraduate Council and discussed committee procedures for the 2005/2006 academic year.

4.     Dr. Kordsmeier moved to nominate Dr. Mary Harlan to serve as Secretary of the Undergraduate Council for the 2005/2006 academic year.  Dr. Zeltmann seconded the nomination. Nomination passed unanimously.

5.     Chair Roden welcomed the following new members to the Undergraduate Council:

Steve Addison, Physics and Astronomy
Brooks Green, Geography
Erick McCarthy, Kinesiology & Physical Education
Patty Phelps, Middle/Secondary Education & Instructional Technologies
Han-Chieh Wei, Computer Science

6.     Report of Subcommittee I – Bill Kordsmeier, Chair.

Dr. Kordsmeier moved to recommend approval of the following changes in Geography:

1. GEOG 2330 – Quantitative Methods in Geography – change from an elective to a required course for geography majors and students enrolled in the GIS minor.

2. GEOG 2345 – Geographic Information Techniques – change from a required course to an elective for geography majors, minors and GIS minors.

3. GEOG 2375 – Cartography – change from an elective to a required course for geography majors, minors and GIS minors.

Dr. Bratton seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.

7.     Ms. Smith moved to remove curriculum changes to the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology degree from the table. Dr.                     Zeltmann seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. Dr. Roden informed the council of a request from Dr. Emogene           Fox to withdraw the proposal from council consideration.

The information items included:

1.     OTHY 4335 – Introduction to Pediatric Occupational Therapy title change to Foundations for Pediatric Occupational Therapy.

2.     GEOG 3307 – GIS in Practice: Business and Social Application to add GEOG 3311 as prerequisite.
