Minutes Undergraduate Council Meeting

Members Present:

Tammy Benson, Joe Cangelosi, John Choinski, Melissa Crawford, Charles Harvey, David Harvey, Dawn Jakubowski, Jennifer Johnson, Rahul Meta, Elizabeth Smith, Conrad Stanitski, Chris Walter, Tony Sitz, and Valerie Williams.

 Members Absent:

Joe Horton, Debbie Howell-Creswell, Mohamed Nour, and Becky Williams 

The items of the agenda included:
1.    Meeting was called to order by Dr. Sally A. Roden, Chair. 
2.    Minutes of the April 16, 2002 meeting were approved as circulated.
3.     Review of charge of the Undergraduate Council as stated in the Faculty     Handbook.
4.     Announcement of new Council Members:  John Choinski, Melissa Crawford, Mohamed Nour, Elizabeth Smith, Marc Willey, and Chris Walter (student representative for SGA.)
5.    Dr. Jakubowski was asked by Chair Roden to serve as Interim Chair during the Subcommittee I report.

6.    Report of Subcommittee I 

Dr. Charles Harvey, Chair of Subcommittee I, moved to recommend approval of new courses INDS 3380 – Junior Seminar and INDS 4380 – Senior Seminar.  Dr. Johnson seconded the motion.  Discussion followed.  The courses are being developed as interdisciplinary courses to be taught on the UCA Netherlands campus in Maastricht.  Motion passed 7 yes, 4 no, 
1 abstention.               

7.    Report of Subcommittee II 

Dr. Dawn Jakubowski, Interim Chair of Subcommittee II, moved to recommend approval of a name change from Department of Military Science to the Department of Military Science and Leadership and prefix change from ROTC to MSL.  Dr. Mehta seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously. 

                Dr. Jakubowski moved to recommend approval of HIST 4362 – Tudor and Stuart England 1450-1688 as an elective course.  Dr. Benson seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously. 

                Dr. Jakubowski moved to recommend approval of HIST 4369 – Victorian Britain as an elective course.  Ms. Crawford seconded the motion.  Motion passed unanimously. 

8.    June, 2002, the Undergraduate Council members voted by email to approve ECON 3315 – Labor Economics.  Motion passed 9 yes, 4 did not respond.

Other business

 Beginning October 1, 2002, the Undergraduate Council will not consider a proposal unless it is submitted electronically.  All packets will be distributed on-line to council members.
