Minutes Undergraduate Council Meeting
September 21, 2004
Members Present:
Lyn Burley, Lorien Foote, Richard Gaughan, Mary Harlan, Charles Harvey, Joe Horton, Jennifer Johnson, Bill Kordsmeier, Conrad Stanitski, Elizabeth Smith, Ann Witcher, Jeff Whittingham, Steve Zeltmann, Mike Scoles, Tony Sitz, and Valerie Williams.
Members Absent:
Joe Anderson and Kevin Kendrick.
The items of the agenda included:
1. Meeting was called to order by Dr. Sally A. Roden, Chair.
2. Minutes of the April 20, 2004 meeting were approved as circulated.
3. Chair Roden read the charge to the Undergraduate Council and discussed committee procedures for the 2004/2005 academic year. Dr. Stanitski moved to approve that all Undergraduate Council materials and minutes be done electronically. Ms. Smith seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Dr. Zeltmann offered a friendly amendment to have the matter forwarded to a subcommittee for further review and recommendation. Dr. Stanitski seconded the friendly amendment. Motion passed unanimously.
4. Chair Roden welcomed the following new members to the Undergraduate Council:
Joe Anderson, Department of Theatre & Mass Communication
Lyn Burley, Department of Writing & Speech
Lorien Foote, Department of History
Kevin Kendrick, Department of Kinesiology & Physical Education
Bill Kordsmeier, Department of Economics & Finance
Jeff Whittingham, Department of Middle Secondary Education/Industrial Technology
Steve Zeltmann, Department of Management Information Systems
5. Report of Subcommittee III – Elizabeth Smith, Chair.
Ms. Smith moved to approve a new course H ED 4320 – Health Promotion Interventions. Dr. Harvey seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Motion passed 13 yes, 1 no, 0 abstentions.
6. Elizabeth Smith informed the council that Subcommittee III recommendations will be sent to all council members electronically.
The information items included:
1. MCOM 2300 – Beginning Reporting and Editing
Change course from required to elective and bulletin description
2. MCOM 3301 – Media Law and Ethics
Change course from required to elective and bulletin description
Meeting adjourned at 2:15 p.m.
