Minutes Undergraduate Council Meeting
August 8, 2005
Members Present:
Joe Anderson, George Bratton, Lynn Burley, Richard Gaughan, Charles Harvey, Joe Horton, Mike Scoles, Valerie Williams, Jeff Whittingham, and Steve Zeltmann.
Members Absent:
Lorien Foote, Mary Harlan, Kevin Kendrick, Bill Kordsmeier, Elizabeth Smith, Ann Witcher, and Tony Sitz.
The action items of the agenda included:
1. Meeting was called to order by Dr. Sally A. Roden, Chair.
2. Minutes of the April 21, 2005 meeting were approved as circulated.
3. Report of Subcommittee, Joe Horton, Chair
Dr. Horton moved to recommend approval of HIST 3340 – Introduction to American Indian History: 1500-Present. Dr. Zeltmann seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Horton moved to recommend approval to change MATH 3331 – Differential Equations from an elective to a required course which will increase the B.S. in Mathematics degree from 34 to 37 hours. Dr. Zeltmann seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Horton moved to recommend approval of MUS 3345 – American Music: A Panorama with minor editorial changes. Dr. Zeltmann seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
4. Report of Subcommittee – Charles Harvey, Chair.
Dr. Harvey moved to recommend approval of curriculum changes in Occupational Therapy.
1. Delete OTHY 3220 – Human Development II
2. Delete OTHY 4316 – Development for Occupational Performance I
3. Add OTHY 4230 – Occupations Across the Lifespan (new course)
4. Add OTHY 4335 – Introduction to Pediatric Occupational Therapy (new course)
5. Add a 3-hour human development course as a prerequisite for entry into the occupational therapy program. Currently 6 credit hours in the behavioral/social sciences are required. This would change to 3 hours of behavioral/social science and 3 hours of a human development course required for entry into the program.Dr. Scoles seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Dr. Musselman was invited in to answer council questions. Discussion continued. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Harvey moved to recommend approval of curriculum changes to the Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology degree. Dr. Scoles seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Dr. Bratton moved to table the proposal. Dr. Zeltmann seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
The information items of the agenda included:
1. Department of Occupational Therapy to reactivate the following courses:
OTHY 4300 – Neuroanatomy
OTHY 4400 – Gross Anatomy
2. Department of Family & Consumer Science bulletin revision for FACS 4395 – Nutrition: Contemporary Issues
