Minutes Undergraduate Council Meeting
March 20, 2007
Members Present:
Brian Bolter, Lynn Burley, Richard Gaughan, Brooks Green, Mary Harlan, Joe Horton, Chenyi Hu, Jeff Jarvis, Deborah Kuster, Erick McCarthy, Han-Chieh Wei, Steve Zeltmann and Tony Sitz.
Members Absent:
George Bratton, Lorien Foote, Patty Phelps, Jeff Whittingham, and Ann Witcher.
Agenda included:
1. Meeting was called to order at 1:40 p.m. by Dr. Sally Roden, Chair
2. Minutes of the January 23, 2007 meeting were accepted as circulated.
3. Dr. Bolter, member of subcommittee III, moved to recommend approval of HIST 4397 – History of Ireland, 1500-Present. Dr. Horton seconded the motion.
Motion passed unanimously.
4. Dr. Harlan moved to remove BIOL 1305 – Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology from the table. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Dr. Steve Runge, Chair of the Biology Department, was invited in to answer council questions. Discussion continued. Dr. Gaughen. Motion passed 8 yes, 4 no, and 0 abstentions.
5. Report of Subcommittee II, Lynn Burley, Chair
Dr. Burley moved to recommend approval of CSCI 4365 – Web Technology. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Burley moved to recommend approval to reduce the English minor from 27 to 24 hours by mandating only two elective courses rather than the current three. Dr. Zeltmann seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Burley moved to recommend approval of a new course INSU 4390 – Special Problems in Insurance. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
6. Report of Subcommittee III, Steve Zeltmann, Chair
Dr. Zeltmann moved to recommend approval of a new course FACS 3350 – Fundamentals of Kitchen and Bath Design. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Zeltmann moved to recommend approval of a new course FACS 3355 – Introduction to Historic Preservation. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously.
Dr. Zeltmann moved to recommend approval of two new courses; FREN 4110 – Senior Capstone Project and SPAN 4110 – Senior Capstone Project. Dr. Horton seconded the motion. Discussion followed. Both are required courses. Motion passed unanimously.
