"This class by far is my best class this semester. . . I enjoyed every minute of it. I believe every freshman should take this class to grasp why they are here." (UCA Freshman, Fall 2003)

A course for and about YOU and your education!

  • Interested in improving your academic performance?
  • Want to meet other first-year students?
This course will prepare you for success in the university and in life by introducing you to the aims and activities of higher education as well as your rights and responsibilities as a student and a member of a global, diverse society. You will advance your knowledge, both theoretical and practical; you will grow your intellectual skills and be asked to think seriously about your attitudes and values. You’ll explore why you’re at UCA and what UCA has to offer you now and for your future.

Universities across the nation are now requiring students to take an FYE course because studies show FYE students have better grade performance, higher learning results, and increased graduation rates. UCA students are strongly encouraged to take this course as an elective.

FYE is run as a seminar, not a lecture, and class sizes are intentionally kept low – only 20 students per class. Specific topics discussed in the class will include:

"Why am I in college?"

"Is the investment in college worth the cost?"

"How will I fit into a multicultural university and world?"

"How does technology impact my education?"

"How do I balance my time and my budget?"

FYE courses at UCA also involve opportunities for students to attend campus events and do volunteer work in the local area for credit!

FYFS 1320 is open to all entering first-year students.  It might be right for you!

See your advisor during summer registration to enroll.
