TAPED
TEXTS
Students who have difficulty with printed material may receive their
textbooks on tape or computer disks through Recordings for the Blind
and Dyslexic (RFB&D). In the event that the requested textbooks
are not available through RFB&D's library, DSS will record the
texts using qualified students. Arrangements for such accommodations
must be made through DSS as early as possible. Eligibility for this
service is determined on an individualized basis. Students must be
able to demonstrate a substantial visual or learning impairment, which
requires supplemental materials (such as taped texts).
In order to
assure textbook availability, all relevant textbook information must
be forwarded to DSS as soon as possible (title, author, publisher,
publication date). This textbook information may be obtained by
contacting the instructor of each course directly, or by contacting
the UCA Bookstore at 450-3414. If you require assistance in obtaining
this information, you may contact DSS.
In general, 6-8 weeks
notice is required to obtain taped textbooks. DSS will make every
attempt to provide materials as promptly as possible. However, late
requests will result in a delay in providing materials.
RFB&D's
taped textbooks require special playback equipment. A limited number
of tape players are available through DSS, however, students are
encouraged to purchase their own A-track tape player available
through RFB&D, as well as other vendors. These compact units can
also be used to record classroom lectures.
Additional information is
available through DSS or you may contact RFB&D's customer service
department at (800) 221-4792.
