The 2nd Annual Arkansas Acoustic
Showdown, a statewide competition highlighting the best acoustic singers,
songwriters, and performers in the state of Arkansas, will be held during the
Arkansas Acoustic Festival on Saturday, May 31, 2003. Out of 200 Entries, 20 Finalists (12 Solo & 8
Groups), will be invited to share their original songs. All entrants for the Showdown will be
pre-screened; those selected will compete to determine winners in the solo and
group categories. First and
Second-Place winners will be named in the Solo and Group categories, and
First-Place winners will return on Sunday, June 1, 2003 to perform
approximately 20 minutes of their original songs as the opening act for our
Festival Headliner. A panel comprised
of individuals from the media and entertainment industries will judge Showdown
competitors. The Showdown will be held
on The University of Central Arkansas campus in Reynolds Hall.

The Festival Committee will make every
attempt to include past winners in subsequent festivals, but makes no
guarantees.
All finalists have the potential to be
videotaped and broadcast statewide by AETN.
Inclusion in this show is strictly determined by AETN, and there is no
guarantee expressed or implied that finalists will be included in any
broadcast.

Guidelines:
Ø
All
writer-performers are invited to send the Arkansas Acoustic Festival one rewound
cassette (without box) or one home-burned CD (with or without jewel
case) of two original songs only (total time should not exceed 8
minutes). If you send a cassette, both songs should be on the same
side. Include your name, address, zip code, phone number, and e-mail
address on your cassette/CD label, so you can be notified. Please
print clearly!
Ø
Submissions must
be live recordings.
Ø The writer may perform these original songs alone (Solo), or with a group which includes the writer or writers.
Ø
The
songs submitted must be the songs performed in the concerts if you are
selected.
Ø
Anyone
may enter except First-Place Winners from the previous year or those who have
been selected as a Finalist for the past two consecutive years.
Ø
Entrants
must be able to perform on the night of the Showdown competition if selected
(Saturday, May 31, 2003), and must be able to perform as the opening act for
the Festival Headliner (Sunday, June 1, 2003).
Please keep these dates open. We
will notify finalists via E-mail no later than May 5, 2003.

No
submission materials will be returned to entrants
Ø
The
committee reserves the right to disqualify entrants pending check or credit
card clearance.
Ø
Any rules that are
misprinted or printed incomplete in other publications are not official and we
take no responsibility for any disqualification resulting from not following
the complete instructions listed above.
Ø
In
keeping with the event theme, all submissions should be family-oriented.
Ø
Entrants
(50% of group) must provide copies of valid Arkansas Identification with fee
payment.
Ø Finalists will be notified individually, and announced via the website and a press release in early May 2003.
Agreement:
Ø
I
agree, as spokesperson for the act entered, that the Arkansas Acoustic Festival
Committee reserves the right to record any portion of the competition for use
in a public broadcast, fundraising, or commercial recording of the festival
events. Further, entry into or
selection for the competition does not imply or insure inclusion in any
subsequent recording, broadcast, or commercial use of any the festival
events. Writer(s) retain all rights to
songs.
Ø
I
understand that the entry fee is non-refundable; recordings submitted for
competitor selection will not be returned.
Ø
I
agree that my/our performance will be family-oriented and free of obscenities
and/or objectionable material.
Ø
I
understand that the decision by the selection committee and Showdown
competition judges is final.
Ø
I/we
agree to perform on May 31, 2003 if selected for the showdown competition and
to perform a 20 minute set of original acoustic music on June 1, 2003 as
opening act for the Festival Headliner if selected as overall winner of the
Showdown competition.
