University
of Central Arkansas Document Regarding Students/Faculty/Staff
Called to Military Service
-
The
recently announced activation of reserve and national guard
units may include individuals who are currently enrolled UCA
students or are employed by the university as faculty or
staff. UCA has developed a tentative plan to address
this issue. In the event of this situation arising,
the following steps may occur:
-
Students
who are activated for military duty may withdraw from all of
their classes with non-punitive (W) grades, even if after
the last date to do so in the academic calendar.
-
Fall
semester fees will be refunded at 100% for such students who
withdraw due to military action.
-
An
arrangement with the UCA
Barnes and Noble Bookstore will be pursued asking them
to consider offering a liberal buy back policy to such
students.
-
If the
activation occurs late in the semester, a guard or reserve
student may work out an academic arrangement with the
individual instructors to complete the semester's courses
and receive grades and credits.
-
This
academic arrangement may include early finals for the
activated individual or incomplete grades.
-
If
incomplete grades are the agreed to arrangement, the normal
one year limit of time to complete the course should be
waived until the student returns to the University.
-
In all
cases, the activated student must provide an official copy
of military orders to the university, either personally or
by another who has the legal authority to act on the
activated student's behalf (parent, spouse, etc.).
-
In
regards to UCA faculty of staff members who may be called to
active duty, strict adherence to national and state
guidelines relating to this issue will be practiced by the
University.
The
University supports those who are willing to serve our country.
