Travel Seminars

Study the literature and cultures of the Southwest!

The UCA English Department offers a travel seminar that will take you through a firsthand experience of Native American cultures in the Southwest. This seminar will explore the ways these cultures look at our relationship to the earth, with special emphasis on Navajo, Hopi, Pima, and Pueblo literature and culture.

Approximate Cost: $1800

After an introductory course at the Heifer International Ranch in Perryville, participants will take a trip to the Southwest to experience first hand the way different Native American traditions use stories, and ceremonies based on stories, to establish and maintain harmony with nature, define and maintain health, and create meaningful lives.

Earn 3 hours of upper-division credit in English, Sociology, or Honors, or graduate credit in English.

Go on a 15-day camping trip to New Mexico and Arizona, and learn from Native American storytellers, healers, artists, and elders.
