Spring 2009 at Panhellenic STAR Program

Do you like meeting new people?

Do you want to get involved at UCA?

Do you want to be a leader on campus?

Do you like helping others by performing community service?

Do you want to be a part of an organization that promotes academic excellence?

Do you want to find a place to call home at UCA?

If you answered “Yes!” to any of these questions then you would definitely enjoy being Greek at UCA!   Read on to learn more about how you can join a sorority at UCA.

The UCA College Panhellenic coordinates deferred sorority recruitment in January known as Formal Recruitment.   Panhellenic also allows for continuous open bidding (COB) throughout the year for sororities which are not at the total allowable size of 85 members; most of these bids are given out during the Fall semester soon after Go Greek Information Night.

In order to participate in the Formal Recruitment process in either the Fall or Spring semesters, UCA requires all students to have completed 12 college credit hours and have acquired a 2.3 cumulative GPA.  Transitional courses do not apply towards college credit hours and will not be considered as meeting required hours for Greek membership; concurrent hours do not count towards the required hours for Greek membership as well.  View UCA’s Policy on Deferred Recruitment or the Sorority FAQ for more information.

Fall - Informal Recruitment

Continuous Recruitment in the Fall semester offers women the opportunity to participate in sorority life and join a sorority through an informal process.  There is no registration process, fee, or required events.  Sororities will hold themed Meet n’ Greets or recruitment parties on an individual basis – activities might include a bowling night, pizza or ice cream party, or a popular TV show viewing.  It is important to attend those events and communicate to the sororities that you are interested in membership.  When or if the sorority decides to extend bids, they will directly contact you through phone or personal visit to join their membership.  It’s a good idea to attend recruitment parties of all the sororities so you can make the most informed decision.  Also, attending Go Greek Information Night on September 2, 2009 at 5pm in the Student Center Ballroom will allow you to meet members from all the sororities as well as the opportunity to ask the Panhellenic Council questions about Continuous Recruitment.  Please remember that only sororities that are not at the total allowable size of 85 members will be extending bids in the Fall semester – so don’t get discouraged if the sorority you were most interested in does not call!  Sign up for Formal Recruitment that takes place in January where all sororities will be extending bids.

Spring - Formal Recruitment

Formal Recruitment in the Spring Semester (January) is the main process the five NPC sororities at UCA use to recruit new members.  The recruitment process takes place the few days before school resumes after Winter Break.  All women interested in participating in the recruitment process must register with the Panhellenic Council; there is a $70 registration fee that covers recruitment production costs, 2 meals, snack breaks, materials, and recruitment t-shirt you will wear during the Second Round of recruitment.    Online registration for 2010 Formal Recruitment will open on September 14, 2009 and continue through December 18, 2009.  Additional instructions will be on the registration site when registration is open.

It is important to recognize that Formal Recruitment is a mutual selection process.  All women will visit every sorority during the First Round; however the remaining parties will be by invitation only.  Just as the sororities are narrowing down the number of women attending each round, you (as the Potential New Member) may only accept a number of invitations per round.  The process will be explained in more detail during the opening Orientation Session as well as throughout the week by your Recruitment Counselor.  Participating in Formal Recruitment does not obligate you to join a sorority, nor does it guarantee that you will receive a bid to join a sorority.
