Free equipment checkout services for all faculty, staff, and students who are members of a registered student organization (RSO) or who have permission from University instructor and can provide student identification.

Check out duration is decided on a case-by-case basis. In general we try to limit checkouts of high-demand items to a few weeks or less.

High-demand items include, in particular, LCD projectors. Exceptions are made as we deem necessary.

In order for the image from your laptop screen to be sent to the projector, two things must happen:

• The projector must be connected to the VGA port, turned on, and set to the correct input mode (normally labeled Computer or RGB).
• The laptop must be told to copy and send the video image to the VGA port (blue plug with 15 small holes in a trapezoid shape) instead of just the built-in screen.

Ideally, the projector should be connected, turned on, and switched to the correct mode before booting up the computer. This often causes the computer to recognize during booting that it has a second video device connected to its VGA port and automatically configure itself to send the computer image to the projector through that port.

If your computer does not automatically detect the projector and begin sending it the video image during or immediately following the boot, follow these steps:

• Once your laptop is booted, check to make sure the VGA cable is securely fastened to the projector and computer.
  
• On most laptops, there should be a key on the lower left-hand side of the keyboard with blue text reading Fn. One of the function keys (F1 - F12) along the top of your keyboard should have either the outline of a monitor screen, or a text description reading something similar to LCD/CRT.
  *On IBM or Dell laptops, it is commonly either F7 or F8.
  
• Pressing that F7/F8 key while holding the Fn key down on the bottom left should toggle the video between the laptop screen, the external projector, or both at the same time.
  
  If you're using an IBM ThinkPad laptop, and pressing Fn+F7 brings up a list of presentation options, you need to select one of the options at the top that reads Presentation on Projector and ThinkPad.
  
• The two options XGA and SVGA are for different projectors that support different resolutions. If you�re using a newer projector, it most likely supports the XGA 1024 x 768 option. If the image does not appear correctly, try the SVGA 800 x 600 option.
