Laptop Initiative Program
The program was conceived with the interest of the students in mind. Our goal is to present a computer at a lower initial cost than by going directly through a manufacturer so that students would have a better opportunity to acquire a personal computer. Since many schools, including UCA, offer technology classes that require the students to own a laptop computer. For that purpose, the University of Central Arkansas decided to develop the Laptop Initiative Program for students.
Laptops are available through a two year lease agreement. They will be available to any UCA student who has at least two years left in which they will be enrolled at the University. During the lease agreement, the student will be issued a laptop computer already equipped with software and peripherals to meet the students computing needs. Students will have the laptops in their possession year round. At the end of the program, the student will own the laptop.
During the two year agreement, the student has free access to help desk support. The help desk will assist with any technical questions, services, repairs, etc. The help desk can typically provide a loaner computer should any laptop need to be sent off for repairs. While technical and accidental damages are covered by warranties, the student is liable for costs under incidences of negligence, theft, or loss.

Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Do I get to keep my laptop at the end of the lease?
Answer: At the end of the two year lease, ownership of the laptop will be transferred to the student.
Question: Am I allowed to download programs, music, games etc. onto my computer?
Answer: The laptop is for your personal use which means you can download whatever you wish, but understand that UCA is not responsible for any repairs or services that arise from consequences resulting from downloads. If you choose to download items, you need to take extreme caution in making sure your anti-virus and spyware protections are updated at all times. Always scan for viruses before downloading, and never download anything that is considered illegal.
Question: What happens if my laptop gets lost or stolen?
Answer: If your laptop is lost or stolen; you are entirely responsible for paying the full cost. If stolen, a police report needs to be filed immediately and you must notify the laptop program coordinator. If the laptop is not recovered, we suggest that you check to see if you or your parent's homeowners insurance will cover the theft.
Question: What happens if I break my laptop?
Answer: If the laptop is not working properly bring it by to the Help Desk in BBA 106 and let the faculty and staff assist you. All technical repairs and accidental damages are covered under the warranty. If the damage is ruled intentional by IBM, you will be responsible for the full cost of the repair.
