Bachelor of Science Education

Bachelor of Science in Education Four-Year Program of Study P- 8 & 7-12 Kinesiology and Physical Education Major P- 8 & 7-12 Health Education Minor Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education Physical Education Teacher Education Program

This 134 credit-hour course sequence assumes a high school college preparatory track and unconditional admission to UCA. Alternative sequences for completing the program are available from the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Teacher candidates complete a P-8 & 7-12 Kinesiology and Physical Education Major and a Health Education Minor. A grade of C or better is required in all KPED courses. A cumulative, major and minor GPA of 2.5 is required for admission, retention, and completion of the degree

WRTG 1310 and WRTG 1320 must be taken during the first two semesters of enrollment. The Professional Portfolio will be introduced during EDUC 1300. The PRAXIS I Exam must be taken prior to the completion of the 2nd semester of enrollment. Teacher candidates must pass a technology competency test or successfully complete EDUC 1240^* as a prerequisite for admission to the Physical Education -Teacher Education (PETE) program. Fieldwork is required in all KPED 22__Teaching courses as well as KPED 1125 and KPED 1135 and KPED 2300.

Teacher candidates must complete 30 hours prior to enrolling in KPED 2300.Teacher candidates must be admitted to the PETE program prior to enrolling in 3000 and 4000 Professional Education courses. Admission to the PETE program requires that teacher candidates have (1) passed the KPED Fitness Test (see departmental fitness sheet); (2) passed the Praxis I tests – passing scores are Reading 172, Math 171, Writing 174; (3) completed 38 hours of prerequisite course work (Math 1390 or higher, WRTG 1310 & 1320, SPCH 1300, KPED 1320, BIOL 1400/1440, H ED 2201, KPED 1125 and 1135 or KPED 22__, KPED 2250, KPED 2300, and KPED 2381) with a C or better; (4) a cumulative and major grade point average of 2.5 or better; (5) passed EDUC 1240 with a C or better or equivalency test; (6) demonstrated professionalism through membership and participation in professional student clubs and professional organizations and (7) received a passing grade on a developmental portfolio presented to the KPE faculty in the semester the student will earn a minimum of 52 semester hours . Teacher candidates must complete the admission process to the Physical Education – Teacher Education (PETE) program. Information regarding the application process is available at http://www.uca.edu/education/teachereducation The College of Education assesses a $250 fee to all students admitted to teacher education.
